After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Western Illinois University and Master of Science degree in Education from Illinois State University and teaching for a short time, Rod started his career selling life insurance. He achieved Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) status several times and earned his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation. Rod joined his father, Lyle, in the Brent Insurance Agency.
Rod expanded his client base by offering commercial property and casualty insurance, which remained his focus when he became a partner in the Van Gundy Agency in 1992. He specializes in designing insurance programs for hotels, auto dealers, food and beverage distributors, and contractors.
Rod has served as a president of the YMCA Board and enjoys golfing and running in his spare time. He and his wife, Renate, enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren.
